The Fifth Shaft

In 1964 rust-belt dusk a trench-coated gumshoe from the Bureau of Atomic Anomalies answers a call to an abandoned mine where miners vanished and a nameless thing thuds in the dark. With a pocket transistor, a tattered notebook, and jazz on his breath, he follows a shimmering seam — a fifth-dimensional crack — into an otherworld of angles and hunger. As company men and government agents close in, he must outwit the creature and the cover-up before the town, and time itself, are swallowed.
